For the third quarter SSR project I chose the book Both Sides Of Time by Caroline B. Cooney. I opted for this fiction book not only because I've read all three books in Cooney's Time Travelers Quartet series, but it happens to be my favorite of them all. This book fascinates me because of the events that happen in the book. A hopeless romantic who goes back in time, caught up in two love triangles in two different centuries, then forced to leave someone she loves anyway. I enjoy reading any type of romance, but I especially liked this one because of the twisted plots. This book starts out simple at first, then definitely ramps up. Annie Lockwood, the protagonist, is a typical teenager who has just gotten out of school for the summer. Her boyfriend Sean is not the romantic type at all. As she goes to Stratton Point where Sean is staying, to tell him that the beach party for the start of summer is starting soon and she wanted him there with her. While he was working on a car, she goes into the old Stratton Mansion and looks around and suddenly feels a falling sensation, almost like an earthquake, and then it was like only half of her was there. He could hear the music, even see the sun coming through the windows, and then he bumped into someone. It was Hiram Stratton, Jr.. When he approaches her, she is scared, then Annie runs out of the house, gets on her bicycle and rides away. Eventually, Strat managed to reach Annie and they went to the beach and sat there. It was there that Annie learned what year it was and they learned each other's names. Harriet Ranleigh was in the mansion in a tower, spying on Anna Sophia and Strat. She was angry and jealous when she saw… in the center of the paper… she is on the beach, which is the setting of the book. The book describes Stratton Point as an educated town that is really beautiful. Nice, France is a truly wonderful and well-educated city. My overall opinion of this book was outstanding. The book was so detailed that I could almost imagine the events happening in my head. I felt sorry for Annie, though, who had a lot of difficult decisions to make throughout the book. Especially telling her mother that her father had cheated on her and that bad boy Sean wasn't there for her or showing her affection. This book should actually be made into a movie. It has the potential to get interesting because of all the twisted events that occur throughout the story. Who doesn't like a romantic yet mysterious time traveling adventure? The director just needs the right people to get involved and he would be all set.
