Topic > Jean Paul Sartre's existentialist belief, we are...

Jean Paul Sartre is a philosopher who holds the philosophy of existentialism. Existentialism is a twentieth-century philosophy that denies any crucial human nature and embraces the fact that each of us produces our own essence through our free actions. Existentialists like Sartre believe that there is no God who determines the nature of people. Thus, existentialists believe that human beings have no purpose or nature except those they create for themselves. We are free and responsible for who we are and our commitments; although we are aware that this can cause agony. Sartre is one of the builders of that philosophy of existence which is existentialism. Human beings must be born and exist before they can define their essence. He states that there is no universal statement about what human beings are. But there is a general statement about the circumstances that make us human, which is that we are free. He believes that when we have to make decisions nothing forces us to do what we are doing. Which leads to the idea that humans must take full responsibility for our actions, beliefs and emotions. Being aware of being free, the responsibility for this can cause “anguish” according to Sartre. One of the most painful thoughts can be that we alone are totally responsible for what happens to us. To avoid the pain of some of the bad decisions we make, people may act as if they have no choice and may pretend that they are not free, which would make them unaccountable. When you act as if you are not free and not responsible you are considered bad faith. That is, human beings try to convince themselves that external forces, forces that are out of control, or our own conscious mental state helped determine the decisions we made. I guess......middle of the paper......the information we are given is It's not ideal, people can choose which one to stick to and the reason we are choosing is because of our experiences that brought us there. I also agree that to create essence we must first be born. Once born we are given the responsibility to create who we are and who we want to be through our actions. I think it's a good thing for people to feel completely free because that way they will take responsibility and take action in their lives instead of blaming others. Having free will people should be more determined and interested in shaping their lives and experiences to become who they want to be, without blaming external sources for who they are. In certain circumstances people are still given choices, and it's how you choose to act in these experiences that makes you who you are..
