“I don't think I'm really in a position to complain, because I consider myself privileged to do what I do.” David Beckham is a professional footballer who has donated countless sums of money to charity. He is selfless, helpful and admirable. He donates to several charities, but has done wonders for UNICEF and his own charity, the Victoria and David Beckham Charitable Trust. David Beckham is an Englishman who inspires because he thinks of others before himself. Beckham's parents, Sandra and David Beckham, helped shape the caring man he is today. He was born on May 2, 1975 in Leytonstone, England. As a child he attended Chase Lane Primary School and Chingford Foundation School. Whenever his teachers asked him what he would like to do when he grew up, he replied: "I want to be a footballer." His first realization that he could become a professional player was when he won the U15 Player of the Year award for the Brimsdown Rovers club. He has played for seven different professional teams and holds the record for the most appearances as an outfield player for the England national team. He won league titles in four countries and announced his retirement at the end of the 2012–13 season. After retiring he said: “I plan to spend time with family and become more involved in charity. Being a UNICEF ambassador is something I am very passionate about. I went to Sierra Leone last year and it was an amazing experience. We also have our own charity and I have a football academy. Also in 2013, he received a Global Gift Philanthropist Award for the scale of his giving. He continued to donate to multiple charities throughout his life.
