PopulationOn October 12, 1999, the world population reached 6 billion people. approximately only 12 years later (October 31, 2011) the world rose to 7 billion. Many people on the planet fear that the world population will become too high. They fear that too many people would lead to starvation and rapid depletion of resources. Some people believe that we should have some kind of law that limits the number of children we can have in each family. Something similar occurred in China about 30 years ago. On September 25, 1980, China's one-child policy was created. This policy prevents parents from having more than one child except twins, triplets, quadruplets, and so on. Parents can also have another child if the first born is a girl or disabled. This policy has effectively kept population growth in check, but not everyone supports it.
