Embarks on this journey to the time of Gautama Buddha. Siddhartha decides to leave home to become an ascetic. Siddhartha is joined by his friend named Govinda, and they become homeless and eventually seek out the Buddha (Gautam) so they can talk to him. Once they find the Buddha, they follow his teachings but then Godvina ends up going with the Buddha himself while Siddhartha does not follow him. As Siddhartha embarks on his spiritual journey through the book, he finds a woman named Kamala but while he is with her he realizes that his life is just a game and he returns to his river and considers killing himself. But he doesn't, he is saved by a sacred word (OM). Once rescued, he sees Kamala for the first time in a while and realizes that the child he is with is his. Kamala ends up dying and Siddhartha tries to raise his son alone. But his son runs away looking for his own path and while the original Buddha is dying, Godvina and Siddhartha reconnect. Siddhartha therefore simply urges people to identify and love the world in its completeness. As Siddhartha does this, Govinda bows to him and Siddhartha smiles, having found it
