Heavy Metal The popularity of Heavy Metal is and is increasing due to its numerous bands and increased guitar technology. Since the mid-1960s, when heavy metal spread to the United States from England, its popularity has grown. Many of the first bands to come from Europe came with two intentions; to spread heavy metal to other parts of the world and make it grow in popularity. (Ragland 1). Heavy metal is a form of rock 'n' roll music played with electric guitars and amplified to unnatural volume levels. Effects such as feedback, distortion, reverb, and Wah Wah pedals are commonly added to music. These effects create completely new sounds, exploiting the possibilities of electric guitars. Most heavy metal music is based on death, Satanism, youth and teenage rebellion. It is divided into three subcategories; speedcore, thrash metal and death metal. Heavy metal is the general term for these three categories combined. It is often simply called metal. Most heavy metal music is based on the electric guitar. (Ragland 1-2).Guitar technology has changed a lot since the beginning of the rock era. In the early 1950s electric guitars were very expensive and had few features. Inventions such as wah wah pedals, fuzz boxes, distortion, reverb, and amplifiers have increased the electric guitar's abilities to create new sounds and music. New devices have also made rock music more popular. More so among the heavy metal population than in many other branches of rock 'n' roll. (Hewens). Heavy metal music grasps the most rudimentary elements of rock; youth, rebellion, sex, fantasy and fun at all costs. It is directed at the alienation and trauma that plagues the lives of teenagers, particularly among the lives of teenagers. They tend to see their lives as controlled by parents and teachers. For many others, it's a way to release frustration and anger. For example, a heavy metal concert for those who love heavy metal, is not just a musical performance, full of elaborate costumes and settings. It is a community of teenagers participating in a shared celebration of youth. (Ragland 1-2). Heavy metal tends to be male-oriented, but metal is not exclusive to the male population. Its core audience is dominated by white male teenagers with criminal backgrounds. Women in heavy metal are usually objects of lust. They are displayed as m...... in the center of the card......cio. “Money is what makes the world go round.” Although this is just a figure of speech, in a certain sense it is entirely true. It brings happiness and misery into people's lives. In Great Expectations, Pip shows the reader that money can truly make a difference in a person's life. At the beginning of the story Pip was not rich, he lived in poverty. His manners were not as grand as those of a rich person, he did not possess much and for this reason he was treated badly. Joe wasn't rich, and neither was Mrs. Joe. They treated Pip as they would treat anyone else, as equals. When he went to Estella's house, she treated him as if he were a boy. Just by looking at him, she concluded that she was better than him because he looked poor and she looked rich. This was the first time Pip didn't consider everyone the same. He considered Estella rich and him poor. As Pip grows older, he becomes rich. He took it for granted and treated the poor the way he was treated all those years ago. He believed that money was power. Estella and Mrs. Havisham were powerful people in his eyes. He wanted to be more like them. As he became a gentleman, he became more and more like them.
