Time to End Affirmative ActionToday we live in America in the 21st century. We have witnessed the realization of dreams brought by our new science and technology. We have created engineering marvels and medical miracles that blur the lines between life and death. It's truly a great time and place to live and we are. However, in this “land of the free” and “home of the brave” which was founded on the premise established by our founding fathers in our nation's birth cry, the Declaration of Independence, that “All men are created equal,” the our legislation does not reflect this. Our justice systems and businesses are flooded with legislation that is itself discriminatory, but its intent is exactly the opposite: to prevent discrimination and prejudice. That legislation is affirmative action. The result of affirmative action is continued disquiet and resentment against races and genders, and after forty years of practice. Affirmative Action never allows us to, but the mistakes of our past are behind us, rather it continues to stir race issues to the surface and center of our minds. You can't move forward when you're focused on the past. Now, to be clear, I am not racist. I truly believe in the founding ideals of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I believe that all individuals are created equal. Because then, if this is true, we need additional legislation that guarantees equal rights only to some. To me this whispers the phrase from Animal Farm "All animals are equal but some are more equal than others". If you really think about Affirmative Action you stand by and comply with the Declaration of Independence. It has already been established that all individuals are equal, but now Affirm...... middle of paper...... we must finish this cycle before passing it on to our children. You can't move forward when you focus on the past.
