The Great Pyramid of Giza is the most famous pyramid (Barrow). It is over 140 meters high and this makes it the largest pyramid in the world (Barrow). Even though it is enormous in size, it only took about 20 years to build (Barrow). People think that this pyramid is famous because it is very large and was built before great technological advances. Another reason why people think the pyramid is famous is because it is one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient (Great) World. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and only standing monument of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient (Great) World. The way the Egyptians built the pyramids was amazing. The history of the pyramids is very interesting. The first known pyramid is the Step Pyramid. A step pyramid has very large edges that look like giant steps (Ancient). Archaeologists say the steps were used by pharaohs to ascend to the sun god. The first pyramid was built by Pharaoh Djoser in 2630 BC (Logan). Many wonder why the pyramids were built and there are many different ways to explain it, but the best way is simply that they were stone tombs where the body of the pharaoh (ruler of Egypt) could live in the afterlife(Sen)(Barrow ). Pyramids have changed since the first stepped pyramid was built. They now have more sloped and flat sides that form a three-dimensional triangle, instead of having steps (in antiquity). An interesting fact about the pyramids is that they were all built near the Nile River. They were built near the Nile River, because it was easier to transport heavy blocks, goods and basic necessities across the river and to the place where the pyramid would be built(Barrow)(History). Pyramids were also built on the west side of the river. Many say it is... middle of paper... third). The Egyptians built the pyramids in many ways, but they are all amazing. The Cheops pyramid, or the Great Pyramid of Giza, is the oldest and largest pyramid. It was the tallest structure in the world for 3,800 years (Sen). The pyramids are a good place for tourism because they are a nice way to see how things have changed dramatically over decades ago. Another reason is because the ancient Egyptians had a really impressive lifestyle and were able to build such elaborate things without having machines to help them. Some archaeologists claim that slaves did not build the pyramids, but were actually paid Egyptian laborers (Logan). “The Egyptians were employed, and archaeologists estimate that workers would have had to place a 2.5-15 ton block every 2 1/2 minutes to complete the Khufu pyramid in about 30 years (Sen).” The Egyptians had a very fascinating lifestyle.
