In "The Real Reason So Few Women Are on Boards," Marty Nemko explains the reasons why men are more prosperous in the workplace. She says men choose work over personal relationships and women often choose personal over business. Although Nemko uses rhetorical strategies to highlight why some men are more successful in the workplace than women, she unnecessarily belittles women regarding the decisions they make to be more family-oriented. Marty Nemko raises some logical points in this article. Nemko believes that men are more successful in the workplace; her reason is that women prioritize differently. Considering the fact that "men aren't that concerned about a tastefully decorated, sparkling, clean home." This is important because he is saying this instead of spending more time in the office; women choose to prioritize more personal matters, such as keeping their home clean.” He then adds that if entrepreneurs make the workplace more family-oriented and less professional, more jobs will be shipped offshore and overseas. This example shows that if Americans don't make career their top priority, their job will be taken away from them and given to someone else who will choose work over family. At the beginning of “The Real Reason So Few Women Are in the Boardroom,” she states that “women are considered slightly better managers than men.” But then she contradicts herself by saying that women must make a choice between “working long and smart or accepting a lower-level job in exchange for a working life.” This is important because it contradicts whether women are better managers than men; they shouldn't have to choose between a lower level job and a long work week because they should be able to succeed...... middle of paper......ugh Hamilton's article contradicts everything they claim articles by Nemko and Hewlett, Hamilton also supports his claims with facts, statistics and sources. Although it is still debatable whether gender plays a role in career success. All points of view are acceptable; women can dedicate themselves to their careers just as much as men. However, what all the articles have in common is the fact that to be successful you must sacrifice and have dedication. Works Cited Hamilton, Diane. "Women are more successful than men."
