Homeless people don't have these skills because they were never taught them, have lost them due to life experiences and are homeless, or simply can't due to mental illness. Life skills are extremely important to prevent people from becoming homeless. For example, Brian became homeless according to Mungo's Broadway (2015) “Five years ago, Brian's life changed completely when his mother died. His mental health deteriorated and, after spending three months in hospital, he was discharged but did not receive the support he needed and with nowhere to go he became homeless. Brian is now in the Broadway hostel in St Mungo's where he is rebuilding his life” (par.1). Helping the homeless gain basic life skills. He or she can go from being homeless to a productive person in society. According to the Department of Human Services (2015) the government's plans to help the homeless, the first plan is: “Provide an emergency and/or transitional shelter to stabilize the homeless and offer them a safe place to reassess and take control their life situation." (par.1). Providing job training to homeless people can help them get off the streets and become a productive member of the community
