"Greed is the root of all evil." A quote from the Bible that describes many plays and stories. Marxist theory uses a similar perspective on this saying, but does not convey the message conveyed by the quote. Using Marxist theory, good can still be done, even if it generally isn't. “A Doll's House” is the perfect example of this theory and quote. His narrative is almost entirely focused on economic status and money. Characters like Nora, Mrs. Linde, and Krogstad are mostly main characters due to the financial problems they got stuck in. It leads their actions until the end of the show until some characters realize that money controls their thoughts and actions. Nora Helmer, the one who used money to make both the right and wrong decisions. His thrifty behavior helps the reader understand that he has a spending problem that he can't control even if the other character brings it up. Nora's husband's life was in danger and the only thing stopping the couple from helping him recover was that their financial situation wasn't as great as they would like. He has decided that even if it means breaking the law, he will get the money. After forging her dying father's signature, she managed to obtain the necessary funds through a loan shark known as Krogstad. After the event is over and Torvald (her husband) is well again, they manage to secure a stable financial situation. Nora has used money as a key plot point throughout the play up to this point. All of his actions involving money have been quite a noble affair. Without an economic upheaval like we see when Torvald's life depends on money, we wouldn't have had 90% of the plot until... middle of the paper... he even saved up the money, eventually led his plot even more than Nora's. Marxist theory is an interesting perspective to view the play “A Doll's House”. All the main characters face a problem involving money, but by the end everyone has dispelled their false illusions about money and how it is necessary to enjoy life or even have a decent one. Nora, Kristine, and Krogstad all had money problems and exploited the financial problems they had. The most interesting thing about the show is how everyone managed to make Marxist theory seem false but at the same time add to the plot. Without money there would be no conspiracy. The Marxist's theory and the author's writings seem to clash revealing that lack of money, or greed, is indeed the root of all evil but it certainly doesn't mean the root can't be pulled out of the ground..
