Topic > Interpretation In Roland Barthes The Death of the Author

It became natural to see the signifier of physical writing on the page, to produce a signified Author who wrote the words. Yet, Barthes argues that this natural inclination is based on a self-created myth, which tells the reader that writing must have a "stop clause." In a cross-dressing-like act, Barthes destroys the idea that society's myths are natural and attempts to convince the reader that finding meaning in the author is not what we should do, but what we have been conditioned to do.
