Trends in the Hospitality Industry Trends are everywhere these days. You can find them in every industry and they play a huge role. The retro trend in clothing, the SUV trend in the automotive industry, but nowhere are the trends more important than in the hospitality industry. But what exactly is a trend? A trend usually describes the measurable course over time of a development in a certain quantitative and/or qualitative direction. In economics, trends are changes in society's behavior. In market research this describes the change and development of consumerism and consumption behavior. In the old days it was fine for a hotel to only have rooms and a restaurant. Today a hotel must have a leisure centre, a beauty farm, a shopping arcade etc. Guests want it, even if they're only staying for one night. Hotel managers have to deal with many wishes and expectations of guests, so they have to look at the hospitality industry from two sides: from the industry-specific side and from the guest-specific side. So where are the trends going? I'll start with industry-specific trends.1. Changing the Customer Profile Healthcare and medical treatments help older adults live longer, more active lives. Horst W. Opaschowski predicts that, due to demographic development, the market for "new seniors" will double. So hotels will start creating special menus, treatments and activities for these guests. Business travelers have changed too. Fewer business travelers travel less often. This graph shows that travel time increased by 10%. But if we take a look at the number of domestic business trips in the United States, they will have increased: It is not surprising that t... middle of the paper... one thing is for sure, there will always be people who will travel and go on vacation and therefore there will always be a hotel somewhere. And who knows what the trend will be in 30 years. Maybe it's the trend towards simplicity, no more than a bed, a table and a chair in a room. You never know and as Prof. Dr. Chekitan S. Dev said: “If you have a competitive advantage, you will lose it. To be successful you must keep looking for innovative and profitable sources of differentiation. Always think: there must be a better way !"Gruner, Axel Dipl.-Betriebswirt, Dev, Chekitan Prof.Dr. "Globale Marketing Trends und ihre Auswirkungen auf die Hotellerie", abseits.de. 2 Feb. 2000.1 Nov. 2006 http://www.abseits.de/marketing_trends.htmKonjunktursbericht: Hotellerie Wintersaison 2005/2006.
