In this profile, I will briefly describe the area of interest of my research, motivated. I will then go on to describe observations that I find inspiring, useful, and noteworthy. The research question will be formulated and subsequently the methods of data collection and the respective difficulties will be illustrated. Finally I will indicate what I have already read and what I intend to read in the bibliography. Area of interestIn my research I will focus on the area of motivation. It is because in my observation, I found that most of the students were engaged even if they misbehaved, not to mention what skills they have, what year they study or what classes they attend. I have never seen this either in my observation or in my actual teaching experience. Supervision is necessary to keep students engaged in Hong Kong. If they focus on homework as much as students do in the UK, teachers can focus more on teaching rather than forcing students to do homework. Therefore, I am interested in considering the different factors that contribute to this phenomenon. Informal observations After observing a series of lessons over three days, I was able to find various differences between education in Hong Kong and the UK in aspects such as teachers' teaching styles, level of student participation and curriculum. Teachers show more patience, tolerance and appreciation towards students than those in Hong Kong. I remembered that one geography teacher taught quite forcefully throughout the lesson. He moved and projected his voice strongly to get closer to each student. A lot of intonation was also used to get their attention. Furthermore, students appear to be more active than those in Hong Kong. They were willing to ask questions and the teacher welcomed them...halfway through the paper...tegies into the language room.
