Alas, Truman Capote, arguably one of the all-time great American writers of the 20th century. Capote was an important part of the Southern Gothic literary movement. He didn't actually write in a fixed genre, he created his own, commonly known as non-fiction. His novels, short stories and plays are mostly recognized as literary classics. He is best known for his short stories Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and In Cold Blood (1965). Many films and other television media have been produced from Truman Capote's screenplays and stories. Truman lived a difficult childhood, marked by divorce and numerous moves from place to place. Capote discovered his ability to write around age eleven and perfected it for the rest of his childhood. He had a great professional career with much fame and recognition for his writings. Truman Capote was born under the name Truman Streckfus Persons in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mother was a 17-year-old small-town girl by the name of Lillie Mae Faulk. His father was a salesman named Archulus Persons. Capote was largely neglected by his parents and was sent to live with his mother's relatives in Monroeville, Alabama, after his parents divorced in 1928. During this time he was close to and befriended Harper Lee or nelle Harper Lee, l he author of To Kill a Mockingbird, the character Dill was based on Truman Capote. Lee and Capote remained lifelong friends. In her book Other Voices, Other Rooms, she based the character Idabel on Harper Lee. Capote and Lee were complete opposites, she was a tomboy to the core and Truman was a tiny, somewhat feminine boy. Harper often teased him jokingly because he was often criticized by his peers for being a good-for-nothing. Later in life He... middle of paper... stopped depending on alcohol and drugs. After the revocation of his license and a hallucinatory attack in 1980 which forced him to be hospitalized. These seizures recurred, and Comet found that his brain mass had shrunk. Capote died in Los Angeles, California on August 5, 1984 at the age of 59. He died of liver disease complicated by phlebitis and multiple drug intoxication.
