Gun control has become an increasingly controversial topic in the nation due to ongoing debates regarding gun control and whether or not pass laws to make it harder for firearms to be obtained. Weapons serve a variety of purposes ranging from good to bad. Guns are not for everyone. Some individuals fail to handle weapons properly and others choose to use them inappropriately. Lately, firearms have become more and more of a problem in our society. There has been an increasing number of shootings that have taken many lives and hurt people emotionally, not just physically. Although firearms are used for protection, firearms are reportedly used more in crimes. More and more shootings are breaking out across the nation. As a result, the death toll from firearms use in the United States is increasing at an alarming rate. Murders involving firearms have become so common in our society that all media reports on some type of gun-related violence every day. Personally, I think the main problem with gun control today is how people can go about purchasing a firearm. All the disappointments and complexities involved in purchasing a firearm overwhelm the average citizen, while some purchase firearms without legally undertaking this complex process. With a perfected procurement system, the mass murders and crimes that fill our nation with pain and sorrow can be greatly reduced. The reason why there are several gun-related incidents in America is for the simple fact that America is the most well-armed country. nation in the world. American citizens alone own approximately 270 million of the 875 million firearms in the world. Another report stated that the United States has 90 firearms for every 100 citizens (Macinnis 2007).
