Aspen BlackburnIntro. to Education4/7/2014Special EducationThe topic I have chosen to write about is special education. In this article I will explain what special education is, how a parent helps your child attend this program, how it helps children, who you should talk to about placing your child, expectations, deciding to place your child in special education, and how to bring out your child if you no longer want them in this program. Special education is a program established for children with special needs who need help. You can participate in this program from the day you are born until you are 21 years old. These kids range from many disabilities, from having minimal trouble paying attention, to having a handicapped disability. Each student has their own file. And being in special education you have to be organized and you have to know what you're doing. You have a lot of paperwork that you have to redo every year. Special education helps with numerous areas of disability. Each child must have a goal that they should "achieve", if the goal they had is not achieved the following year, when they will reevaluate the IEP and set a different goal. This program should help students achieve adaptations and modifications. This does not mean that disabled children who participate in this program are not close to their peers. The point is for each student to experience the other. Students act as models to each other. And to people who aren't really interested in diversity, it gives them a chance to be able to understand. They should be able to interact socially with them. The only time they leave the classroom is if they have behavioral problems or need to be read to. When you decide that... halfway down the paper... it's in your child's best interest to take them out. But is it really like that or are you simply very insecure? Your child may need it a lot more than you think. You should really rethink the purpose your child has in this program for a reason. And you also had to go through so much paperwork to get them in. The child had to undergo a horrible amount of testing to get to where he is. During my research for this article I already knew so much about special education. In our introduction to education class we talked a lot about this program. As a teacher you need to have everything together so you don't mix up student files. You also need to know exactly what you are doing. This whole thing can be really stressful. You need to make sure that students' goals are not excessive. Special education teachers are hard to find. But when you get one you keep them for a long time.
