PurposeClassroom management plays an important role in effective teaching by providing a desirable environment that promotes better student learning and growth. The most important effect that classroom management has on student behavior is that it promotes better learning because students can concentrate better when their environment is free of distractions and conflicts. When a teacher provides a well-organized and controlled environment, students' academic interest and achievement increase while behavioral problems decrease (Pope, 2010). A classroom management technique that I plan to use in my future school setting will include the use of cooperative learning. According to Maher (2010), cooperative learning leads to higher achievement at the group and individual level, higher quality reasoning strategies, more frequent transfer of these from the group to individual members, greater metacognitive skills and more new ideas and ability to troubleshooting. Students will be assigned heterogeneous groups with a mixture of high achieving students and low achieving students. Groups will also be created to ensure diversity between gender and ethnicity. Questions Can the puzzle learning environment lead to higher group and individual achievement? What is the benefit of the puzzle class? How does purposeful organizing impact student learning? How do assigned group roles affect student participation?MethodsOne method I plan to use in a cooperative learning environment will be a jigsaw technique. According to Aronson (2014), jigsaw puzzles are a remarkably effective way for students to learn material; More importantly, the puzzle process encourages listening, involvement and empathy by giving each group member an essential role to play in the classroom activity.
