Topic > Macbeth and Robert's Laboratory-Ancien Régime...

Macbeth is very superstitious: he asks the witches to stay and tell him more about his potential fortune and destiny. “Stay you imperfect speakers, tell me more.” (Act 1, scene 3, line 70). During his first meeting with the witches, he is immediately intrigued and begins to elaborate on what the witches said, ordering them to explain who they are. Macbeth is aware of the witches' imperfections and how dangerous they are, but he still wants to feed his curiosity and learn more about his impending future. Macbeth is willing to ignore and ignore negative influence for his personal gain. We can compare Macbeth's superstitions with the paranoid woman in Robert Browning's The Laboratory-Ancien Régime. Both characters, Macbeth and the unnamed woman, have an obsessive addiction to substances or external information. Macbeth relies on the three witches to reveal his future to him and proclaim his position, whether he will be king or not. «Tell me whence you owe this strange news, or why in this cursed land you stop our way with such a prophetic greeting. Speak, I command you." (Act 1, scene 3, line 75). Macbeth questions the witches about how they can predict the future and why they have welcomed it in such a mysterious and oracular way. Macbeth asks the witches to talk more about the future, has faith and believes in witches. The jealous and cunning woman in the laboratory can be linked to Macbeth. She relies on the poisoned potion he created to take the life of another woman he envies. “The delicate droplet, the reward of all the my luck! If it hurts her, then, can it ever hurt me? (Paragraph XI) The woman describes the potion as delicate, the poison means a lot to her since it will destroy her enemies... middle of paper... the Duke wants to characterize himself as a sea God, the all-powerful Neptune also says that the Duke wants to visualize himself taming a seahorse, characterized as the Duchess because he doesn't think he has tamed her properly yet , even if that's what he wants to happen. I agree with this statement because with the evidence I have provided, the Duke wants to be Divine like Neptune and uses vivid imagery to visualize the Duchess as a seahorse being tamed by Neptune. I also agree with this critic because the vivid images are just a visualization that hasn't come true yet, but the Duke desperately wants this to become real.*****Works CitedMACBETH - WILLIAM SHAKSPEAREMY LAST DUCHESS - ROBERT BROWNINGPORPHRIA'S LOVER - ROBERT BROWNINGTHE ANCIENT REGIME LABORATORY - ROBERT BROWNING
