Topic > Community Policing Case Study - 1315

Terrorism does not discriminate, but many tactics and policies created after 9/11 have caused violations of civil liberties and provoked major unrest. The local criminal justice process has therefore been affected by the militarization of law enforcement and the deployment of cutting-edge surveillance techniques and equipment as communities begin to distrust their law enforcement. With examples like Ferguson Missouri, No Knock Search Warrants, and the PRISM program, the distrust of US citizens has spilled over into violence on the streets. To regain control and prevent those who seek to bring harm to the United States from seizing this moment of turbulence, law enforcement agencies must reevaluate their policies, tactics, equipment, and specialized units. Regaining the trust of those living within their communities must be leveraged through communication between community leaders and law enforcement. The United States is at a crossroads: if change is not implemented, there will be more violence and civil unrest
