Historical Analysis of the Industrial Revolution Throughout the 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s, there was a revolution going on. It was the revolution that allowed us to write essays like this on a computer just like this one here. If America and England had not industrialized during this period, we would have fallen behind in technology by several dozen years. The English were the first to industrialize, followed shortly by our colony in America (although we were still under their rule at the time). It is said that this revolution is still underway today, shaping how we grow as a country. But why is all this important? What were some of the promises made by this Revolution? There must have been many problems during the Industrial Revolution, but there was just as much, if not more, progress that these problems turned out to create. This essay will talk in detail about the progress, problems, and promises that the revolution has made. First of all, we have the problems. There were many problems with the Industrial Revolution, starting with living conditions. In the process of “urbanization” (the process by which towns and cities form and become larger as more and more people begin to live and work in central areas. – Source, Merriam-Webster.com), many people were relocated in slums and public housing, cramped living areas where disease and illness spread like wildfire. Even though healthcare was improving in these times, it was still very difficult to stay healthy throughout your life if you lived in these times. It was a very difficult life, living in the cities. You had to work in places like factories, making clothes and fabrics. This brings us to our next problem, factories. The factories were very dirty and full... of paper... and rights. Even though many people were not treated well at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, eventually people had more rights in the workplace thanks to Karl Marx and the Workers' Rights Movement. It was in the late 1800s that these strikes began, but they were still part of our overall vision of the Industrial Revolution. If no one stood up to stop the tyranny of entrepreneurs, we would probably continue to do things in a similar way, giving very few rights to workers and people who are unable to start their own businesses. In conclusion, the Industrial Revolution was very beneficial to the way we operate today, even though living in times of change was very difficult. It is important to remember that if only one major advance had changed, the world could be much more different than we know it today. Works CitedMerriam-Webster.com
