One similarity is that Johnny's parents are always fighting in both the movie and the book and Johnny hates him so much that he cried one night. Johnny felt like no one knew what he was going through because no one else had fought like him. Even when Darry was mad at PonyBoy and he accidentally slapped him and it made Pony sad and angry because he already felt that Darry hated him. Even though Darry didn't mean it and felt really guilty, Pony just wanted him to leave him alone.
