Topic > Socialism is possible and can work - 1123

Could socialism ever work? This is the question that has at least crossed the minds of hundreds of millions of people around the world, especially with the credit crunch and recession that have occurred in recent months. The variety of issues surrounding socialism as a concept, theory or idea is not about its complexity or its difficult interpretation, but about the fact that, for most people, it seems too good to be true. Many people have gone through demoralizing capitalist systems, having convinced themselves that nothing as good as socialism could ever happen in life, just like that without a possible catch somewhere (Colin, 2009, p. 189). Socialism is a perfectly reasonable and practical way on which the organization of a society can be based, and the various objections to it are rather mere dominant capitalist ideologies that are illusory. In this essay, arguments are presented that socialism is indeed possible and can work (Kelly, 2009, p. 3). Efficiency and bureaucracy, the problem of greed and competition, laziness and the efficient organization of work to cope with dirty jobs in a socialist society are analyzed. Socialism seems less efficient and bureaucratic. One of the typical arguments against socialism is that it is much less efficient and bureaucratic (Caldwell, 2011, p. 87). The analysis of the US healthcare system immediately disproves the thesis according to which the private sector is less bureaucratic than the public one. The private, profit-driven healthcare system in the United States faces a large bureaucracy that is primarily aimed at completing the paperwork and logistics necessary to ensure that profits and revenues are funneled to a few individuals (Peter, 2008, p. 335-7). a study conducted by Harvar...... half of paper ......009, 'A New Look at American Communism', Springer and Business Media Journal, vol. 22: 452-462.Orwell, G 2008, 'Socialism and utopia', Journal of Utopian Studies, vol. 19, no. 1, pp.73-79.Peter, K.V. 2008, Towards an era of development.
