Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury accurately portrays a world in which addictive technologies desensitize society and, as a result, make it more prone to inappropriate behavior. In today's society, highly addictive video games involving strong violence and language, explicit sexuality, and criminality often lead to inappropriate behavior. RPGs or role-playing games allow us to enter a virtual world, cutting us off from worldly distractions. Nowadays, the age range for people playing these extremely graphic games is from six to eighteen years old, and they are surprisingly dangerous to the health of young children. One study gave a group of players playing a violent video game the option to make a painful sound into their opponent's ear to gain maximum advantage. They also gave the same opportunity to another group who played non-violent games. The study showed that overall players who played violent video games were more likely to inflict more pain on their enemies, unlike the other group who inflicted much less pain. Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D who conducted this study agrees that “violent video games desensitize players to violence and make them more violent in real life” (McGonigal). Young adults are exposed to these terrifying images, damaging their mental health. events, an eight-year-old boy shot his grandmother after playing Grand Theft Auto. This game is the epitome of why young people should not play these games. It includes murder, drug and alcohol abuse, criminal behavior, violence and general disrespect for women and foul language. In summary, young people should not play these games to save their mental health. Furthermore, television helps to desensitize society with its... medium of paper.... Society too, as seen in Mildred's friends. Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles are similar to Mildred, saying they voted for the last president simply because of his looks. They don't care about the important qualities, only the superficial ones Montag is further shocked when they talk so casually about the war and their family, saying "(Insert quote here" (Bradbury). This also shows that not only is television addictive, but it can desensitize you from earthly problems. Television allows you to enter a different world, and when Mildred's friends are forced to return from it, they cry and are angry Montag forced them to comfort their shameful sadness towards family ethics, the decline of the impending war and the abandonment of the high suicide rates in their society.
