In my opinion, I believe that people who go through this phase need to put their thoughts together, Krebs wants to demonstrate the pain of soldiers' life which has so much pressure in dealing with wounds , gunshots and killings. So, in other words, it could mentally influence them to show affection, to treat their family members like random strangers, to not get the help that their families would like them to participate in. Krebs here is tired of people showing sympathy towards him. His response doesn't mean he doesn't love his family, but in other words he doesn't want affection shown towards him because he believes he's not worth loving. This emotion shows how burnable Krebs is feeling and doesn't care that his actions hurt those around him
