He makes an excellent point when he says that the more knowledge you have about black workers, the less control unions will have over them. Blassingame goes on to state that African American studies will have a relatively short cycle because it has already been considered a “soft program that these students can get through” (Blassingame 152) and institutions “are not seriously committed to African American studies because they feel the demand will soon die out ” (Blassingame 153). Black people need to broaden their horizons to be able to teach in other fields such as mathematics, biology, engineering and law. In this way we will begin to truly integrate schools and there will no longer be unfair "separate but equal" structures. Blassingame argues that African American studies should not serve as an "emotional reinforcer" (Blassingame 160), meaning that black students have the support of other blacks to better live with racism, because there have been many blacks before them at time when racism was more prevalent and they succeeded without it. African American studies should be used to enrich the educational experiences of all students and teach them to think and understand their problems more clearly
