Topic > Future prospects for nanotechnology in aviation

Scientific literacy is the ability to understand scientific concepts for personal decision making. This project will demonstrate the understanding of scientific knowledge achieved through ERAU's Bachelor of Aeronautics degree course. Nanotechnology in some forms follows a unique set of rules that other materials subjected to the same stressors do not. That said, traditional laws may not always apply to certain areas of nanotechnology. Nanotoxicology will be covered to delve deeper into the possible hazards of nanomaterials and nanocomposites, as well as the mechanisms underlying these materials will be explored. Meteorology will play a role in determining the viability of certain nanomaterials such as nanocoating on aircraft. The examination will cover some effects of adverse weather phenomena on nanocoated aircraft. A key component to identifying some potential materials will be exploring quantum mechanics publications to understand how these materials behave at the nanoscale compared to their macro or micro counterparts. For example, research sponsored by the Division of Materials Sciences found that the molecular dynamics calculation method can be unstable and unreliable in calculating the structure of some nanotechnology applications. (Noid, 2014).Cultural Literacy"The student will be able to analyze historical events, cultural artifacts, and philosophical concepts" (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 2014).Cultural literacy is knowledge gained from other perspectives and shared as a common knowledge heritage of a society. Cultural literacy will be addressed in this project by analyzing public familiarity, perceived risks and potential benefits of nanotechnology.
