Complications of Obesity Obesity occurs when an individual has accumulated a large amount of body fat which results in a negative effect on his Health. These adverse effects can range from diabetes or congestive heart failure. Studies show that obesity is much more common in African-American, Hispanic and Caucasian populations than among Asians (Mary Ferguson), 2). In today's society, younger children are adapting to bad habits. Most children in America are becoming obese. It's not the fact that these children were born obese. The simple fact is that most of these kids don't get the right encouragement at school, in restaurants or at home. In the article “'Extra Large'“, 'Please, written by Alice M. Davies, includes several causes that lead to obesity. Alice Davies' article clearly addresses the current concern about childhood obesity, which I agree with. There are many causes and effects of childhood obesity. In the article "Extra Large, Please", Alice Davies explains the growing problem of childhood obesity. Initially, the writer uses a critical anecdote from her childhood. This anecdote gives an idea of children's desires and the difficulty of refusing delicious meals. At the beginning of this article, Alice applies the past to advance the present cause. Additionally, Davies inserts vivid details and facts about obesity to demonstrate that it is a real problem in our nation. Undeniably, there are several factors presented in this article. Lack of opportunities, electronic entertainment and parental supervision comes from becoming obese. Currently, fast-food plays a major role... overall, I still maintain that parents have a direct effect on their children's obesity. In closing, I agree with Alice Davies' perception in the things she said in her article. Most American children are becoming obese leaving them without a great future. Nowadays kids prefer to eat junk food while watching television because it somehow comforts them. This act of behavior must be stopped because it is harmful to our society. Children in our society should be fully energetic and healthy. It is better to have a healthy society than an unhealthy one. Families should serve healthy food and limit the length of commercials, schools should ban junk food vending machines, and restaurants could limit the amount of calories in food to improve society. Finally, it is incumbent upon Americans to do something about this growing national public health disaster.
