Topic > A Brief Biography of Steve Jobs - 778

On February 24, in San Francisco, California, Steve Jobs was born to Joanne Schieble and Abdul Fattah Jabali. Joanne was a speech therapist and Abdul Fattah was a political science professor of Syrian origin (Isaacson 2011). His mother grew up in Wisconsin in a family of German origin and his father came from a prominent and wealthy Syrian family with 9 children. His mother was a strict Muslim housewife and much emphasis was placed on education at home. Not long after his birth Steve, still an unnamed baby, was given up for adoption. Clara and Paul Jobs who named him Steven Paul Jobs adopted him. Many say that Steve's father, Paul, lit the fire of interest in electronics in Steve's mind and often encouraged him to experiment with these things. Job's adoptive father did not have a college degree and had grown up on a farm in Wisconsin with an alcoholic father. His mother was the daughter of Armenian immigrants who had just fled the Turks and come to America. They married within ten days of meeting. They had a happy marriage but due to an ectopic pregnancy in the past, Clara was unable to conceive. (Isaacson 2011). So in 1955 they were looking to adopt. They were blessed with Steve. Steve lived a happy life with his adoptive parents in Mountain View, a small town near Silicon Valley. Even though he lived a nice and comfortable life, Steve always knew he was adopted and this took a toll on him as a child when he was teased because his parents "didn't want him." His adoptive parents, however, made it clear to Steve from a young age that they had chosen him specifically and this lit a light bulb in Steve's head from a young age that he was special. Steve was later described by Controlling an... middle of paper... as a "glorified calculator", but he loved it and seeing it was a significant part of his life. The club often did projects and Job's was to make a frequency counter. To gather the parts Steve called HP CEO Bill Hewlett. They talked for a while and after offering Steve the parts, he also got him a job at the company that makes frequency counters. In high school Steve took an electronics class with a teacher named McCollum. The teacher was very strict while Steve had no respect for authority. Steve only ended up attending the course for a year. It wasn't a total waste though because while there he met Steven Wozniak, a teacher's favorite and a complete electronics genius. Wozniak and Jobs met through a mutual friend named Fernandez with whom Wozniak had previously worked on electronics projects. Both great pranksters, Wozniak and Jobs, hit it off right away.
