Topic > My most defining experience with osteopathic medicine

My most defining experience with osteopathic medicine was the shadow of a family doctor, Dr. Truong. I was impressed by his holistic, patient-centered care and hands-on manipulative skills. Not only did he provide medical care to his patients, but he cared for them mentally and spiritually. For example, he asked his patients what their life goals were during the initial visit and reminded and encouraged them to work toward their goals during future visits. He also promoted a healthy lifestyle, such as eating little sugar, a diet rich in vegetables and exercising regularly. As a result, one of his patients lost 20 pounds following his advice. Additionally, Dr. Truong has used OMT and acupuncture to help his patients relieve pain. One of his patients suffered from severe knee pain that could not be treated by others. He found a spot on his thigh and performed OMT and the pain never returned. He also taught me the four principles of osteopathic medicine. With my knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, which shares some similarities with osteopathic medicine, I quickly understood the philosophy. Dr. Truong's shadow sparked my interest in osteopathic medicine. Then I started exploring this profession by reading books. The more I learned, the more I discovered that this is what I want to do in my future practice. I not only want to cure patients and their diseases, but I also want to address the underlying causes and solve them. I want to specialize in OMT and use my hand to bring immediate relief to suffering patients. I also learned that training in osteopathic medicine places an emphasis in primary care, which is my interest because it allows me to develop a long-term relationship with patients, address the full range of their needs,…half of paper. .....or forget some small work done by others. So when I prepared for an official presentation, I spent a lot of time going over my past conversation and checking with my managers to make sure I included all the people who helped us during our recognition insults. I also have a strong desire to serve others, including underserved populations. While serving at a Bowery Mission homeless shelter, I realized that homeless people usually need more help with healthcare but have inadequate access and limited medical knowledge. I am interested in working in underserved areas and serving underserved populations because I can maximize my impact by meeting their needs. I hope to bring my qualities, such as integrity, interpersonal skills, and my strong desire to serve others, to LMU -DCOM where I can receive training to become a successful osteopathic physician.
