I worked for an organization in New York called My Mother's House and this organization was founded by a woman named Sister Elaine. This woman was successful in leading and implementing change because she had a clear vision and was willing and able to do what she needed to do to bring this home to fruition. To give a little background on my mother's home, this was a home that was developed for the children of incarcerated mothers who were separated from their mother due to incarceration. These children had no other people to provide for them and Sister Elaine decided that she would fight to obtain a building where these children could live and be cared for by others in their mother's absence. He faced a lot of opposition from Child and Family Services, politicians and the community, because criminals were considered “bad people” in the eyes of many, especially in the early 1980s, when there was a tightening of the criminal regime. None of this discourages this woman's determination and commitment. Sister's idea was to call the house "My mother's house", because she said she didn't want any of her children....
