Arlington National CemeteryWhile the birds sing their sweet tune, the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery are filled with sadness. Even as the sun's brilliant rays shine through the dense tops of the colossal trees, there is a chill in the air. As you watch the mourners, the feeling of their pain is all too real. Thousands of gravestones in the distance create magnificent mazes against the horizon. The immense land has very little space available as it is overflowing with the graves of heroic soldiers. The white marble tombs are like enormous dominoes stacked squarely in the thick, wind-ruffled grass. It is almost inconceivable to imagine that each grave is the eternal physical home of a once brave and patriotic warrior of our homeland. As the fireball in the heavens slowly descends, it creates a glorious silhouette of the infinite number of tombstones. As you travel quietly and respectfully through the peaceful cemetery, the final resting place of John F. Kennedy will be discovered. Watching over JFK's grave is an eternal flame. The eternal flame emits a propane aroma into the still air. While you may look at Kennedy's grave, it is difficult to imagine that anyone would intentionally take over the life of a great leader of our nation. Continuing, the Tomb of the Unknowns is the next stop on the journey. An extravagant white marble sarcophagus symbolizes the resting place of patriotic fighters who could not be identified during the war. Guarding the splendid sarcophagus are the sentries of the Tomb Guard. These sentries are considered the best elite in the United States Army. The elite soldiers walk back and forth in a rhythmic motion so beautiful it is spectacular. There is a wonderful feeling knowing that brave unknown soldiers are being honored for giving their lives in a terrible time of war.
