About 40,000 people per year die from car accidents in the US alone, but what if this number went to 0 with new car technology. In the future cars will improve inefficiency, safety and, above all, become significantly better. With all these improvements it is possible to drastically reduce the number of deaths caused by cars. Since 1969 many people have died from them, the death rate has been at an all-time high, but the death rate has decreased over the years, with this evidence it is likely that one day deaths will be zero. Automobiles have become much more efficient since they were powered by a steam engine in 1769. The steam car was a great idea but it didn't have the power to carry more than one person or climb a small hill. “In 1806 cars began to be powered by gasoline, but cars only started using the gasoline we use today in 1885. Then in 1886 German inventor Carl Benz created a Benz Patent-Motorwagen.” This Motorwagon was considered the birth of the modern mobile car. These cars had an MPG rating of around 8 and went as fast as 8 MPH. This speed improved rapidly and by 1910 cars reached speeds of 40 MPH (Gegano). In 1842 Thomas Davenport and Scotsman Robert Davidson created an electric car using non-rechargeable batteries. “The 1902 Phaeton built by the Woods Motor Vehicle Company of Chicago, which had a range of 18 miles, a top speed of 14 mph and cost $2,000, this was the next step in electric cars and was popular at the time.” Electric cars quickly became unpopular because they didn't offer as much power as the petrol-powered alternative. This is still a problem today, but a man named Elon Musk, owner of a company called Tesla Motors, created an ele...... middle of paper ......010771227>."The future of cars." Caramdddriver.
