Over the past years and months, we have had several cases where hackers and programmers exploit the government and various agencies for the corrupt individuals they really are. You might think of people like Edward Snowden, the man responsible for leaking National Security Agency secrets. Although he is one of the most influential people in the technological society we have today, he is not who I want to focus on. The man I want to talk about is Julian Assange. He is a perfect example of betrayal and deceit because of the countless number of governments he has exposed. You may have heard of the Wikileaks site. Wikileaks is/was an online organization, dedicated to exposing corrupt governments and large corporations. Since it was founded in October 2006 by Julian Assange, it has published over a million articles and is considered one of the largest sources of "leaks" in modern society. These articles, published mostly by anonymous civilians, range in scale from patent battles to millions of classified government documents (Wikileaks and Wikileaks Wikipedia). WikiLeaks has been in the news recently due to various leaked documents released throughout 2010 and 2011. Among these leaked documents were over 250,000 government diplomatic cables ("encrypted" messages usually sent between diplomats). These cables date back to 1966 and contain classified information regarding the war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq (Wikileaks, Chelsea Manning). When we think about whether or not the ends justify the means, we usually think about how the person may or may not have good intentions. With the founding of Wikileaks, Assange only wanted to help people by exposing their governments.
