According to the film, equity doesn't mean everyone gets the same, it means everyone gets what they need. In my computer science class, many times I heard teachers say that it is unfair that some students have undeniable privilege. There was one student classified as emotionally disturbed. He constantly exhausted the class, attacked students and teachers, and became furious when completing academic work. Some teachers saw him on a skateboard being dragged down the hallway. The excitement on his face annoyed the teachers because they saw this action as a reward. However, the student was not compensated, he was in occupational therapy (OP) to receive his needs. Additionally, teachers have approached me complaining that my individual student does not deserve the privileges he has because of his behavior. I found myself defending my student and feeling frustrated that his privileges were viewed as a reward and not a need. The definition of equity confirmed that I was not only advocating for my student, but also for their needs. Now I can share the definition of equity with my colleagues to raise awareness for LD students receiving theirs
