The therapist provides K with the tools to get rid of the negative thought processes that are constantly present. It is believed that someone with an OCD thought process has a warning or tries their best to stop the negative feeling by taking actions such as washing their hands. Additionally, people with OCD blame themselves for their obsessions, creating an even worse thought process. The therapist would educate K about his cognitive process so that such thoughts can be overcome making his obsession easier to manage. When K understands what his cognitive errors are, he will be able to calm down when he feels the need to do one of his compulsions.
