Birth is the only way to preserve the human species from extinction and for the continuity of life. Although the processes of pregnancy and childbirth are complex, we must know and learn about them because of their importance. The reproductive systems in both male and female are involved in this process. They produce sex cells or gametes: the egg and the sperm. These systems are essential for creating new embryonic cells that are almost identical to those of the parents, but each differs from the other. Sperm carries half of the genetic information in the form of chromosomes and transfers it to the embryo when fertilization occurs and also to the egg. Sperm is produced by the male reproductive system after going through different phases or stages. Some organs of the male reproductive system are located inside the body (internal) and the rest are external. Sperm are formed in the testes and also release sex hormones. Then the spermatozoa grow into the epididymis and remain there for a few days. Subsequently, the sperm move into the glands and form sperm through the vas deferens. Finally, the process of ejaculation that causes sperm to exit the body occurs in the penis (Steven Dowshen, 2010). In females, the egg is considered the female gamete and carries the other half of the genes to the embryo, as we mentioned before. The egg is released from the ovary and then moves into the uterus through the fallopian tubes (Mangala Telang, 2007). The sperm will enter the female reproductive system through the vagina. Fertilization can occur in the first third of the fallopian tubes. The zygote will be implanted in the uterus (Keith L. Moore, 2008).
