During World War II there were many different aspects on the Allied side that helped them defeat the Axis powers. A crucial aspect for the Allies were well-built airborne divisions. The United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division was considered the strongest and most successful division during World War II. After being reactivated for World War II, the men of the 82nd Airborne Division undertook intense training and then took part in some of the most dangerous missions of World War II. Before the 82nd Airborne Division was actually considered an airborne division, this division was strictly an infantry division. The 82nd Infantry Division was raised at Camp Gordon, Georgia on August 25, 1917. This division soon acquired the nickname "All-Americans" as it had men from all 48 states at the time. In 1918 the All-Americans were sent to France to fight in World War I. After fighting for only five months, this division was already part of three major combat battles against the German army. Soon after the end of World War I, the 82nd Infantry Division was inactivated. The All-Americans were now just memories of the First World War. After America was brought into World War II, the 82nd Infantry Division was reactivated into the United States Army under the command of General Omar N. Bradley. The reactivation of this division meant that there were many untrained and inexperienced men in this infantry division. Most of the soldiers volunteered after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. All paratroopers were volunteers. Bradley taught these men how to use a gun, conditioned them to run for long periods of time, and made them muscularly stronger. In August 1942 the 82nd... middle of paper... the skills of a paratrooper were then invited to go to war for the first time. These men of this division demonstrated how powerful they were soon after their first appearance in the war. Then this division was asked to be part of one of the most famous missions in the history of the United States Army, D-Day. This division then accepted the challenge of D-Day and was very successful in its mission. If the 82nd had not entered Normandy the night before D-Day, the entire outcome of D-Day would, without a doubt, have turned out differently for both sides. The task undertaken by this division was pure courage and courage. Training as an inexperienced soldier, then fighting in a war, just several months later, for your country just shows how much fearlessness and courage the entire division had, ranking it as the best division to ever be part of the States Army United..
