Topic > Essay on Organic Produce - 1739

Many people now eat organic due to the health benefits of the lack of pesticides and other harmful substances used during the food production process. They also contain healthier vitamins and minerals needed for everyday health. When we eat non-organic foods, we are eating food covered in pesticides, filled with antibiotics, or even covered in sewage. If you could choose based on those few sentences, you would be more likely to choose organic products. Eating healthier by avoiding non-organic foods can be difficult and more expensive, but it's definitely worth it for your health. There are standards in place by the United States Department of Agriculture for growing, processing and labeling organic produce. Organic products do not use pesticides, petroleum-based fertilizers, or sewage sludge (Brooks 1). In this way they preserve natural resources and biodiversity (“Organic Agriculture 1). These products also do not include products that have been bioengineered, also referred to as genetically modified, and cannot be subjected to the use of ionizing radiation (Brooks 1). Radiation used in conventional and non-organic foods has led to causing various types of cancer among consumers. Plants and even animals are also affected. Animals are affected by other forms of genetic modification. They are given steroid-rich antibiotics and other drugs that we end up ingesting when we eat a product from those particular animals. Every non-organic product we eat contains pesticides and even steroid-filled antibiotics. Steroids have also been shown to affect the growth of children and stunt their development. Organic farming and production does not support the administration of antibiotics... half the paper... organically grown foods are more nutritious than those grown using conventional methods. I believe future research will answer this question, and in my opinion, organic products are definitely a better alternative to non-organic foods from an overall health perspective. They are free of pesticides and other harmful aspects, contain more vitamins and minerals, and are grown in more natural environments. When the ability to eat healthier is made as easy as it is to do so, why not? Even when you consider everything that food goes through in both the organic and conventional, non-organic processes; one can make their own decision by choosing what they believe is healthiest for them. If he decides to eat organic, once he commits it will be difficult and will cost him more money, but that money will be spent for a great purpose. This good purpose is his health.
