It is clear that illegal immigration is out of control and that restrictive measures must be taken to protect the borders of the United States. Arizona's local government recently decided to take control of the situation by passing the "Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act" {House Bill 2162}. This bill gives law enforcement and agencies the authority to lawfully stop, detain, and arrest anyone who appears to be an illegal alien. The bill openly condones racial profiling and even violates civil rights! National Security Immigration Statistics verify that there are approximately 11 million illegal immigrants residing in the United States. In Arizona there were an estimated 460,000 unauthorized immigrants in 2009. (United States). Arizona borders Mexico and it is implied that most illegal immigrants are of Mexican origin. These figures are understandably disturbing especially for Arizona's local government and the nation as a whole. The large influx of illegal immigrants is causing serious economic and social problems. Prisons, schools and hospitals are the institutions that receive the direct hits of the state's immigration problems. For these reasons, Arizona state legislators justify their new "suspicious" immigration law (Matthews Mark K). The strong voices behind Arizona's new immigration law are Gov. Jan Brewer, state Sen. Russell Pearce (right) and the infamous attorney Kris Kobach. Southern Poverty Law Center {SPLC} legal director Mary Bauer says some of the personalities behind Arizona's new immigration law are highly suspect.
