I, like many people, have always heard about the IMF in the news, but have never really known or understood its inner workings, this report illustrates what the IMF is international, how it works and how it is currently involved internationally. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a form of global credit union involving 187 countries, a nearly global involvement. The International Monetary Fund was founded in the aftermath of World War II in 1945 alongside the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) as a United Nations agency. The objective of the International Monetary Fund is to promote global trade and exchange rate stability. Each of the 187 members pays a monetary amount to the International Monetary Fund based on their individual economic size, and currently the largest contributor is the United States of America. Some of the major crises in which the IMF is involved include support for the reconstruction of Haiti, the economic collapse of Iceland and financial problems in Greece. The IFM was established after the Second World War in 1944 as an agent of the United Nations and came into formal existence in 1945 after the signing of the Charter. The Articles of Association were as follows: first The International Monetary Fund is hereby established and shall operate in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement as originally adopted and subsequently amended. Secondly, to enable the Fund to conduct its operations and transactions, the Fund maintains a General Directorate and a Special Drawing Rights Directorate. Membership of the Fund entitles you to participate in the Special Drawing Rights Department. And finally, Ope...... middle of paper ......ing with. The IMF is involved in what seems like every moment. The world is much less stable than most people think, research on the IMF made me realize this a lot. The International Monetary Fund is evidence of global economic chaos and instability. Works Cited www.imf.org Danielson, J. (2008).
