Film-Analysis of Life is Beautiful“Life is Beautiful” is an Italian film; Roberto Benigni played the main character, Guido Orefice, and also directed him. The film was controversial due to the way in which Benigni presented the content of the Holocaust with an unlikely comic angle. Some thought it showed a false representation of the concentration camp, while others thought it showed triumph. However, in March 1999 it was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Life is Beautiful won three awards, best foreign language film, best actor and best original dramatic score. This award-winning film is set in Arezzo, Tuscany. It touches on and teaches very important historical issues such as racism, fascism, concentration camps and prejudice. It has a mixed genre of comedy, romance, drama, war and fairy tale. The topic of the Holocaust is of great importance as it has greatly influenced history and our lives today. Benigni plays the main character, Guido, a Jew. Who falls in love with his "princess", a gentle one, Dora. Guido rescues her from a loveless marriage on horseback and brings her back to his home. Then there is a seven-year transition recovery. Then we see Dora and Guido leaving followed by their son Giosue. Giosue has a beloved wooden toy tank without which he won't go anywhere. Italy is conquered by the Nazis and Guido and Giosue are taken to a concentration camp. Dora, realizing that Guido and Giosue have been taken, asks to get on the train that leads to the concentration camp and she does so. To prevent Joshua from seeing the harsh truth about life in a concentration camp,...... middle of paper... makes the film enchanting, it works excellently when he remembers himself as a "prince" and his wife as his "princess". he also takes her away on a white horse called "RobinHood". The fairy tale genre works well because it creates a magical atmosphere and helps the development of the relationship between Guido and Dora. The repetitions work well to highlight the terrible change between the two parts. The tank symbol works well as most people could relate to having their favorite toy, becoming a reason for living also means that most children would pay the world for that toy to come into real life. Finally overall I agree with the second point because I thought the film was enchanting, emotional and powerful, it gave me a sense of well-being and triumph at the end when Giosue says “The gift my father gave me was his life, so we won!”
