Stepfamilies are one of the fastest growing forms of family. Australia and the United States view stepfamilies as unique and an important form of family as the new norm. United StatesAccording to a recent study, 40 to 50% of married couples form a stepfamily, and approximately 52% currently have a steprelative (Pew Research Center 2011). Almost 1,300 new reconstituted families are formed every day. However, the actual number of stepfamilies is slightly larger than shown, as more stepfamilies cohabit than marry.
