Topic > Leadership and power in Machiavelli's The Prince

For some scholars the Price was Machiavelli's way of asking for a job by showing his experience in the political field, but for others it is simply a great piece in which Machiavelli wanted to share his ideas on leadership, ethics and forms of power. The Prince is a book that can be considered a guide on how to obtain power and how to maintain it. Machiavelli in the first chapters defines various types of principalities and princes. Next, he describes how different people achieved power in different ways and argues that there are multiple ways to achieve the same goal, it depends on the leader who makes the decisions. The best-known parts of the book come after chapter 14, where he gives advice and instructions to leaders who want to be in power and keep it.
