Did you know that in a 2013 study, 1,668,420 Americans underwent cosmetic surgery to alter their body to fit the body image they consider the norm in society. More and more Americans agree to undergo cosmetic procedures without understanding the possible deadly risks. With the introduction of medical advances and improved procedures, the risks appear to increase. As society has placed significant pressure on the physical attributes of adolescents and adults, cosmetic treatments are performed and considered at a record level, resulting in potentially harmful and fatal consequences. Some say plastic surgery is a good thing because it can boost self-esteem. However, what people fail to understand is that once you alter a past of your body, it is psychologically proven that your self-esteem tends to decrease and you continue to become dissatisfied with your body. Cosmetic enhancements are seen as a necessity to meet social expectations. . Due to the mental and psychological risks of cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery for cosmetic enhancements should be discontinued.
