I returned to Asia to reunite my family because the relationship I have with my father is one of the things I value most in my life. From him I learn the most important lessons. He taught me to be the best person I can be and to be grateful for everything I have. Instead of a nice house, he got us a small, cozy one, right next to a landfill. Every day I was woken up by the stench, sometimes it was strong, sometimes I couldn't smell it. We lived with the locals because my father didn't want me to forget my culture, my family, or the place where we started. People aren't always lucky enough, and I consider myself very lucky because every day I see kids my age picking up trash or selling trash. They couldn't go to school, they were stuck in the cycle of poverty. Education in Asia is much more expensive, public schools do not provide adequate education, so most people prefer private institutions. People who couldn't afford to go to private schools went to public schools, or simply didn't go at all. The “…average income is approximately $950 per year. 80% of the population lives in the countryside and 57% of the workforce is engaged in agriculture…” World Renew. Most children do not go to school, they work on the farm or on the farm
