Topic > Importance of the Narmer Palette - 1393

Another important aspect of the Narmer Palette is the carvings and what they symbolize. According to Dr. Amy Calvert, some have interpreted the battle scenes as a historical record of Egypt's initial unification under a single ruler, supported by the general timing, this being the period of unification, and the fact that Narmer sports the crown linked to Upper Egypt on one side of the palette and to the Lower Egyptian crown on the other, this is the earliest preserved example where both crowns are used by the same ruler. Other theories suggest that, rather than a true historical representation, these scenes were purely ceremonial and related to the concept of unification in general.
