I like the advice Beach gives about having the student fill out the "Guided Assessment" form before the meeting, asking the student to write down what he or she is trying to say in the their task and where they have difficulty making their point of view understood (58). This is especially useful when a tutor or teacher does not have a lot of time to spend with each student, because it allows the student to think about the work in more depth before meeting their teacher/tutor. This is convenient for our online Hangouts because we only have about 15 minutes to dedicate to each student who needs assistance with their work. That's nowhere near enough time to allow a person to sit down, think, evaluate, and then talk in depth about their struggles with their problems.
