Medical billing and coding is a profession that plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry. Their job duties include: being responsible for accurately coding a patient's diagnosis, reviewing and processing patient data such as treatment records, complying with federal legislation requiring the use of electronic health records, and being proficient in complex software and medical billing computer systems for reimbursement (payments) and insurance purposes. To become certified as a (MIBC), I would need to provide proof of course completion in a training program, have at least 2 years of work, internship, or hands-on experience in the MIBC, or have a post-secondary certificate or degree in billing and medical insurance coding. Not to mention, I would also have to take and pass the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) national certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), pay an application fee, and be a member of any of the national organizations such as l 'American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to obtain my credentials and certification. Being certified would therefore make me a more marketable candidate for employment purposes with greater considerations for paying a higher salary
