It is based on biological assumptions of the different roles played by males and females in the family (sexual role theory). Supporting this view is Heidensohn's control theory that patriarchal society exerts greater control over women by reducing their opportunities to offend. Women are concerned about household chores that confine them to the home for long periods of time, reducing their time to commit crimes. Daughters are usually not allowed to go out alone or stay out late and as such are forced to spend most of their time at home assisting their mothers with household chores, which reduces their chances of committing crimes and deviant behavior. Even in public, women are expected to dress responsibly so as not to be labeled as indecent or irresponsible. Even in the workplace, women are assigned subordinate positions that prevent them from reaching higher positions where there are greater opportunities to commit white-collar crimes (Heidensohn, 1996). The media is also a means through which people get more information about crimes. Publicize more about crimes committed by men, for example women, who are sexually harassed, forcing women to stay indoors for fear of falling victim to these vices. Based on this, women have less opportunity and time to commit crimes than men who spend most of their time
